Eighth District Court of Appeals Featured During Cleveland-Marshall College of Law's Orientation Week

For the past several years, the Eighth District Court of Appeals has traveled to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law as part of the school’s Orientation Week, giving incoming law students the opportunity to see the appellate process firsthand. Despite the pandemic, this year was no exception. The court and school continued the tradition in a virtual forum. Judge Patricia A. Blackmon, Judge Mary J. Boyle, and Judge Sean C. Gallagher heard oral argument in a civil appeal pending before the court on August 19, 2020.

The virtual courtroom held over 150 people.

Following oral argument, Cleveland Marshall College of Law Associate Dean Carolyn Broering-Jacobs and Cleveland Marshall College of Law Professor Doron Kalir moderated a question and answer period between the students and the parties’ counsel — attorneys Andy Kabat and Winn Allen. The judges concluded the program, answering questions from the first-year students and sharing their own personal paths in the legal profession.
